BRE Innovation Park
Welcome to the BRE Innovation Park, our showcase of the very latest in innovative methods of construction, and in cutting edge but practical and affordable sustainability.
The Park, at the centre of our Watford site features a number of demonstration properties showcasing Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), near zero-carbon homes, and over 200 different innovative and emerging technologies.
Since being officially opened in June 2005 by the then Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott, the Park has attracted over 20,000 visitors as well as VIP guests including HRH Prince of Wales, Government Ministers and civil servants.
The buildings include:
The Visitor Centre - This has been converted from one of the Park's original demonstration houses built by Hanson, the Visitor Centre provides full information on all of the products at the Innovation Park, while also showcasing a range of new designs and technologies.
The Barratt Green House - winner of the 2007 Home for the Future Design Award, run by the Mail on Sunday, it offers both public appeal and the potential for volume production.
The Organics House by ecoTech - demonstrates a flexible system of sustainable homes that can be both mass produced and designed to suit individual circumstances.
The Hanson EcoHouse - constructed using traditional building materials, precisely assembled to conform to the best principles of innovative methods of construction.
The Kingspan Lighthouse - has achieved the highest level (Level 6) of the Government's Code for Sustainable Homes
The Osborne House - the older sibling of the other buildings described here, it was completed in July 2006 and formally opened by the Housing Minister.
The Stewart Milne Groups' Sigma Home - two townhouses, the design of which is partly based on Victorian terrace principles, while their construction and sustainability embrace the latest technologies.
The Re-thinking School - showcases the design and construction of an inspirational learning environment with outstanding sustainability credentials.
Landscaping - an exemplar for sustainable community landscaping.
